How would you describe yourself or your work in one sentence?
TransMascSA is a social support group for transgender men and those who identify as transmasculine who were presumed female at birth
Tell us a little about what you do
TransMascSA is a fortnightly social group for transgender men and transmasculine folks that runs out of 57 Hyde Street in Adelaide. At these meetings we provide free snacks and drinks, free new and pre-loved binders donated by community members, and free access to hygiene products that members may feel uncomfortable buying in shops.
In these meetings we rotate between 'chill' sessions, where attendees can hang out, play board games, and relax with other transmasculine folks, and 'info' sessions, where we deep dive into topics and provide information about transition aspects (such as hormones, surgery, style, or how to update legal documents).
We also run a private Facebook group with over 1,100 members and a small private Discord server for online sessions & to provide support for folks living too far from Adelaide to attend in-person.
What impact or achievement are you most proud of this year?
TransMascSA has provided a space for trans masculine people of all ages and all stages of their journey for 10 years as of August 2026. We provide a space for transmasculine folks to be themselves and express themselves however they like, and provide food, information, and resources for those that need them. Our facilitator team does this in their free time, unpaid.
Through our Binder Program, we were able to provide 128 new, free binders to those who could not afford to buy one themselves; with many more second-hand binders re-homed through our pre-loved binder exchange box.
Why does your work matter to the community?
Each fortnight, we welcome folks to spend time among people who *get* them - who know what it's like to experience gender dysphoria in the ways unique to those presumed female at birth. We can provide a space for them to express themselves as they are, help give people a chance to try gender affirming garments, help them feel not-so-alone during a time when trans and gender diverse people are being repeatedly talked down upon by people who don't understand our community.
What would you like voters to know when voting for you?
A vote for TransMascSA is an affirmation that our community matters, and an acknowledgement of 10 years of volunteered hard work and personal funds that have gone into supporting the trans masculine community in South Australia.
