How would you describe yourself or your work in one sentence?
A vibrant regional Pride celebration bringing hundreds of people together to celebrate LGBTQIA+ visibility and community in Port Augusta.
Tell us a little about what you do
Together in Pride Port Augusta Inc is a community-led not-for-profit organisation working to promote LGBTQIA+ inclusion in regional South Australia.
Our flagship event, the Port Augusta Pride Picnic, is a free community celebration that brings together performances, community stalls, family activities and inclusive organisations. It creates a joyful and welcoming Pride experience for people in the Spencer Gulf region.
What impact or achievement are you most proud of this year?
The 2025 Port Augusta Pride Picnic welcomed 150–200 attendees from across the region, including Port Augusta, Whyalla, Port Pirie and the Flinders Ranges.
The event featured live entertainment, drag performances, community stalls, service providers such as Uniting Country SA, Shine SA, Wonky Lines Counselling and the Queer Society, as well as family-friendly activities such as the Nylon Zoo storytelling experience. A highlight was a local resident performing drag publicly for the first time, demonstrating how regional Pride events can create opportunities for LGBTQIA+ expression.
Why does your work matter to the community?
Regional communities rarely have access to large Pride events, meaning many LGBTQIA+ people must travel long distances to participate in celebrations of identity and diversity.
The Pride Picnic brings that experience directly to Port Augusta, creating a visible and joyful celebration that welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds.
What would you like voters to know when voting for you?
The Port Augusta Pride Picnic proves that Pride events can thrive in regional communities and create powerful moments of visibility, connection and celebration. Voting for us recognises the importance of bringing Pride beyond capital cities and ensuring regional LGBTQIA+ communities can celebrate together close to home.
