How would you describe yourself or your work in one sentence?
Sexual and reproductive health and wellbeing for all.
Tell us a little about what you do
SHINE SA delivers clinical services, education, workforce development, community partnerships and advocacy that advance sexual and reproductive health across South Australia. Our work is underpinned by a commitment to health equity, self determination and trauma informed, person centred care.
We prioritise communities experiencing the greatest barriers to care, including LGBTIQA+ people, and work to improve access, safety and confidence in navigating the health system.
What impact or achievement are you most proud of this year?
In 2025, SHINE SA launched Telehealth Self Collect Cervical Screening, funded by Preventive Health SA, to reduce screening barriers. This service is an accessible and inclusive option particularly for LGBTIQA+ people who continue to face discrimination and increased barriers to traditional screening environments. The telehealth model increases accessibility by allowing people to self-collect in a private, affirming environment, seek care from clinicians trained in LGBTIQA+ inclusive practices and access the service regardless of location. Early outcomes show increased uptake among people who were overdue or had never screened, demonstrating tangible improvements in preventative health access.
Why does your work matter to the community?
LGBTIQA+ people continue to face higher rates of healthcare discrimination, reduced screening participation and poorer health outcomes. SHINE SA plays a vital role in addressing these disparities through culturally safe, inclusive and accessible care. Our Rainbow Tick accreditation reflects a strengthened cultural capability across the organisation. Our services, including comprehensive and inclusive sexual and reproductive health clinics, community education, counselling, and professional training, are designed to respond to diverse needs and reduce barriers to essential health services. By centring trust, dignity and respect, SHINE SA helps create safer pathways to care for LGBTIQA+ South Australians.
What would you like voters to know when voting for you?
Voting for SHINE SA recognises our leadership in improving LGBTIQA+ health and wellbeing across the state. It acknowledges our commitment to removing systemic barriers, delivering trauma informed and affirming care, and expanding access to services for those with the most need and least choice. Your vote supports the continuation of inclusive, evidence based models of care that meaningfully improve wellbeing outcomes for LGBTQIA+ communities.
