How would you describe yourself or your work in one sentence?

Sexual and reproductive health and wellbeing for all.

Tell us a little about what you do

SHINE SA is South Australia’s leading provider of sexual and reproductive health services, education and workforce development. Our work is grounded in bodily autonomy, choice, and a commitment to health equity. As a Rainbow Tick accredited organisation, LGBTIQA+ inclusion is embedded across our systems, culture and practice as a fundamental expectation of how we work.

We invest in leadership capability, staff training and co designed initiatives to ensure our policies are lived out in everyday behaviour and decision making. SHINE SA prioritises the voice and safety of LGBTQIA+ staff, clients and community partners in shaping our culture.

What impact or achievement are you most proud of this year?

In the past year, SHINE SA has strengthened LGBTIQA+ inclusion through organisation wide action and external validation:

• Rainbow Tick re accreditation (2025): Re accredited against the Rainbow Tick Standards with two commendations for going above and beyond in creating an inclusive workplace and delivering inclusive services for the community demonstrating both cultural safety and sustained practice improvement.
• Leadership accountability: Inclusion remains a clear expectation for leaders and teams, reflected in how decisions are made, how services are designed, and how issues are escalated and addressed.
• Everyday inclusive practice: Inclusion is embedded across clinical and education practice, workforce development, and community partnerships as standard operating practice.
• Clear safety and reporting pathways: SHINE SA maintains accessible mechanisms for raising concerns and addressing safety issues, supporting a culture of dignity, respect and accountability.
• Capability building beyond our walls: Through training in LGBTIQA+ inclusive practice for other organisations, SHINE SA contributes to safer experiences for LGBTQIA+ people across the wider health and community system.

These actions demonstrate inclusion in everyday culture, service delivery, and leadership practice, with independent recognition through Rainbow Tick re accreditation and commendations.

Why does your work matter to the community?

A safe, inclusive workplace directly strengthens the services SHINE SA provides. LGBTIQA+ communities engage with us during deeply personal moments, making reproductive choices, navigating gender affirmation, accessing sexual health care or seeking support. When our staff feel respected, safe, and able to be themselves at work, the care they provide is more culturally affirming, more responsive, and more connected to real lived experiences.

As an employer, SHINE SA recognises that meaningful LGBTQIA+ inclusion is fundamental to improving health outcomes and reducing barriers to care.

What would you like voters to know when voting for you?

Voting for SHINE SA acknowledges the importance of LGBTIQA+ inclusive workplaces in delivering safe, high quality health care. It recognises our commitment to continuous improvement, lived experience leadership, and an organisational culture where inclusion is not only expected but actively practiced. By supporting SHINE SA, you support a workplace model that strengthens the wellbeing of both staff and the communities we serve.
