How would you describe yourself or your work in one sentence?
A humble advocate for all people, freely offering compassion, mercy and emotional safety to others.
Tell us a little about what you do
I am the President of Pride of the South since 2015 I have been volunteering to make a change in the Southern Community since 2014. Not only do I volunteer for the Pride of the South, I am also a activist against Family Domestic Violence for everyone. I am an survivor of same-sex DV and passionate about improving supports in the South to be able to work with all LGBTIQA+ Communities
I volunteer at the SAFE Centre facilitating Women Support Groups for women experiencing abuse and we have been inviting LGBTIQA+ community who feel safe being in mainstream groups to attend and we are absolutely willing to change our language to work with the community safely.
It brings me joy to see people looking brighter and happier and also getting supports they deserve!
What impact or achievement are you most proud of this year?
I have won Awards through Pride of the South at the Pride Gala, and Onkaparinga Council and also last year a National Hunt for a Hero Special Commendation Award for my outstanding community impact and creating a more inclusive society for all'
I have won an Award at Flinders Queer Society - Community Builder Award
I have made an impact in the last ten years by adding the rainbow to the Southern Community. I spent my first years of attending mainstream events and asking what about the LGBTIQA+ Community but now if they see me in the room they know the elephant in the room will be talked about!!
Why does your work matter to the community?
My work matters in the community to make improvements in people's lives but gently, and I am here to listen and try my best to refer people to the right centre. I am very passionate about educating people about LGBTIQA+ Domestic Violence as it is known as a invisible Domestic Violence
Pride of the South is too give community a chance to get to know new people in a safe place at our events. One of my best feelings is too see people starting to feel safe and grow and not being so isolated.
What would you like voters to know when voting for you?
I will never give up and will always be working hard to make those hard changes for everyone
