How would you describe yourself or your work in one sentence?
Driving systemic change on the issues that matter to LGBTIQA+ South Australians.
Tell us a little about what you do
The South Australian Rainbow Advocacy Alliance (SARAA) is the peak body for LGBTIQA+ South Australians, working to improve health, safety, inclusion and equality through systemic advocacy, community engagement and sector capacity building. Founded in 2013 by community members including Ian Purcell (inaugural inductee of the South Australian Pride Hall of Fame) SARAA has grown from a small volunteer-led collective into a trusted statewide voice for LGBTIQA+ communities.
What impact or achievement are you most proud of this year?
In 2025, SARAA expanded its team of LGBTIQA+ advocates and delivered significant reforms and sector-wide initiatives - from shaping state policy and election priorities in the State of Pride Report, to establishing the Rainbow Council Network to embed inclusion across local government. Guided by community leadership and sustained collaboration, SARAA works to ensure LGBTIQA+ South Australians experience connection, safety and belonging.
Why does your work matter to the community?
LGBTIQA+ South Australians continue to face rising hate, health inequities, and systemic discrimination. Without coordinated representation, these issues remain fragmented and unaddressed. SARAA ensures our communities have a visible, organised and strategic voice to government and decision makers.
What would you like voters to know when voting for you?
A vote for SARAA recognises over a decade of sustained, community-led advocacy and the measurable progress achieved in 2025. It supports a peak body that works behind the scenes and in the political arena, strengthening our voice to government on the issues that matter to LGBTIQA+ South Australians.
