How would you describe yourself or your work in one sentence?

Making a difference in the South for the LGBTIQA+ for all ages!!

Tell us a little about what you do

Pride of the South is an Not for Profit Association which organise social monthly events for all ages of the LGBTIQA+ Community. We work with different organisations to improve the lives of the LGBTIQA+ Communities in the Southern Region.

We attend many events in the South to promote our organisation and to have great conversations with the Southern Community.

We have been working hard for 11 years now and have built many strong relationships.
We have events for the special days for the LGBTIQA+ communities and also organise a LGBTIQA+ DV Awareness training once a year at the SAFE Centre at Christies Beach.

What impact or achievement are you most proud of this year?

One of our biggest and best achievements is our annual Southern Pride March and Family Fun Day which the whole community love and enjoy each year.
We are also so very proud of still being here after 11 years and growing strongly for another year!
We have won a Pride Gala Award in 2024 Community Group of the Year and were finalists in 2025.

We have won an Intergenerational Award in 2025 for the Onkaparinga Council. One of our achievements is to be leaders to improve support for the LGBTIQA+ in the Southern Region. We see the council acknowledges Pride Month and the Pride Picnic at Feast time. The Onkaparinga Council have Pride Month events for each week of the month and we feel we showed other organisations that it is ok to support the Rainbow community without the roof falling in.

Why does your work matter to the community?

Our work matters as we make differences in people's lives. All the committee members would have a few stories of success or watching someone grow by attending our monthly events or their first Southern Pride March which is so very special.
We get people off their lounges and out and about to meet people and bring their support workers or family or whoever they need to feel safe. Next minute those shy people are the supports for newbies!
Our work also educates people in the society who only want to support their loved ones and feel so relieved to find such friendly community group to catch up with monthly or at other events we organise through the year!
We hear some great stories from our big day the Southern Pride March and Family Fun Day! Our work matters as we invite all ages which is rare!

What would you like voters to know when voting for you?

We have a made a difference in the South and we continue to do so!
