How would you describe yourself or your work in one sentence?

Creating Connections, Raising Rainbow Hearts

Tell us a little about what you do

Pink Parents have been a community run LGBTQIA+ parents and carers group for over 25 years. In the last few years we have expanded to include multiple weekly playgroups across Adelaide. We aim to provide a safe space for LGBTQIA+ parents, carers and children to meet and connect with one another at various locations around metropolitan Adelaide.

What impact or achievement are you most proud of this year?

We have over 900 members on our Pink Parents Adelaide Facebook group who regularly interact with one another, seeking connections with and information from other families. We have approximately 15-20 families that connect every week at playgroups across metropolitan Adelaide. Many Adelaide LGBTQIA+ families have made ongoing community connections as a result of meeting at a Pink Parents playgroup.

Why does your work matter to the community?

Community is everything when you’re raising children. The old saying “it takes a village to raise a child” resonates deeply with us at Pink Parents. We aim to provide multiple safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ families so that they can feel supported and make connections with other families in the community. Watching children talk with each other about having two mums or two dads or three or four parents is a beautiful thing to witness. Seeing other families like theirs is such an important part of feeling connected to the world around them.

What would you like voters to know when voting for you?

Vote for us because every child deserves community and every LGBTQIA+ family deserves to feel seen, supported and respected.
