Tell us a little about what you do
Hike Society Adelaide is an LGBTQIASB+ hike and social club built around connection, consistency and belonging. We run regular hikes and social events across South Australia, creating spaces where people can meet others, build friendships and feel part of something steady.
We focus on showing up, reliably and visibly, so our community always knows there is somewhere safe to be themselves.
What impact or achievement are you most proud of this year?
Since launching in October 2023, we’ve grown to 100+ members and delivered consistent fortnightly hikes alongside social events and partnerships with other community groups.
We’ve built a structure people rely on, with clear safety standards, inclusive leadership, and a welcoming culture that supports both new and returning members. The growth has been organic, driven by word of mouth and trust.
Why does your work matter to the community?
Belonging doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when people consistently create space for others.
For many LGBTQIASB+ people, especially those outside traditional nightlife spaces, finding community can be difficult. Our group offers connection in a different setting that is; outdoors, active, intergenerational and inclusive. Over time, those shared miles turn into friendships, support networks and real community building.
