How would you describe yourself or your work in one sentence?

Creating Connections, Raising Rainbow Hearts

Tell us a little about what you do

Pink Parents is a community led LGBTQIA+ parents and carer’s group that has been supporting Adelaide families for over 25 years. In the last few years we have expanded to include multiple weekly playgroups across Adelaide, weekend meet ups, annual camps and meet ups for gender curious young people under 12 and their families. We aim to provide a safe space for LGBTQIA+ parents, carers, children and young people to meet and connect with one another.

What impact or achievement are you most proud of this year?

We have over 900 members on our Facebook group asking questions, responding to polls and seeking connections with other families. We have around 15-20 families that connect every week at playgroups across Adelaide. Many other families have connected at events such as our annual camps and weekend meet ups. Lifelong connections have been made by many Adelaide LGBTQIA+ families as a result of Pink Parents events held over the last few decades.

Why does your work matter to the community?

Community is everything when you’re raising children. The old saying “it takes a village to raise a child” resonates deeply with us. We aim to provide many safe spaces and events for LGBTQIA+ families so that they can feel supported and make connections with other families within our community. Children and young people talking with each other about having two mums or two dads or three or four parents is a beautiful thing to witness. Seeing other families like theirs is such an important part of feeling connected to the world around them.

What would you like voters to know when voting for you?

Vote for us because every child deserves community and every LGBTQIA+ family deserves to feel seen, supported and respected
