Greg Kelly is a long-term survivor of the HIV/AIDS pandemic whose life and work reflect extraordinary resilience, advocacy, and compassion. A classically trained chef, Greg has spent more than 30 years transforming kitchens and community spaces into places of connection and care.
Through his volunteer-led cooking classes for people living with HIV — including those facing financial hardship or social isolation — Greg offered far more than recipes. He provided dignity, knowledge, and a warm, welcoming table. His belief in the healing power of food has helped restore hope and health to countless lives.
Greg’s service extends beyond the kitchen: from public health campaigns and community radio to rolling up his sleeves in the flood recovery efforts in Lismore. A powerful advocate, he speaks openly to challenge stigma and build understanding.
Now, through his memoir Start With Your Own Onion, Greg ensures the stories of survival, solidarity, and service are preserved for generations. With humility, humour and heart, he continues to show what it truly means to live well and lift others along the way.
