Vonni

2024

A true icon of South Australia’s queer community, Vonni’s legacy is woven through decades of fierce advocacy, dazzling performance, and unwavering visibility. As a transgender woman and entertainer, Vonni broke barriers on stages across Adelaide and beyond, becoming a beacon of representation in a time when few dared to live authentically. Her presence empowered generations of LGBTQIA+ people to live boldly and proudly.

For more than 50 years, Vonni used her voice and her platform to support the community — from performing at early AIDS fundraisers to mentoring emerging drag artists and advocating for trans rights long before it was widely accepted. She brought joy, colour, and courage to every corner of the community she touched. Vonni was not only a performer — she was a lifeline, an inspiration, and a living reminder that pride is protest, survival, and celebration all at once.

Inducted into the South Australian Pride Hall of Fame in 2024, Vonni’s impact continues to resonate across our stages, streets, and hearts.
