Helen Bock

2025

Helen Bock is a trailblazer of South Australia’s LGBTQIA+ community — a cultural architect, grassroots activist, and lifelong advocate for visibility, connection, and pride.

Emerging from the radical energy of the 1970s lesbian feminist movement, Helen helped establish spaces where women could gather, organise, and celebrate identity. Her legacy includes co-founding the Feast Festival in 1997, now a cornerstone of South Australia’s queer cultural landscape, as well as championing artistic initiatives like Women’s Theatre, The Sweethearts of Swing, and The Fabulous Semaphore Guitar.

Helen also played a vital role during the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis, supporting community-driven efforts to raise awareness and provide care. She has spent her life bringing people together — through the arts, activism, and an unshakeable belief in the power of community.

Helen’s Hall of Fame induction in 2025 marks not only her remarkable contributions, but also the 50th anniversary of South Australia becoming the first Australian state to decriminalise homosexuality.
