Eric Kuhlmann takes his place in the Hall of Fame

When Pride Adelaide talks about legacy, we are talking about people. People who showed up. People who stayed. People who helped shape not only what Pride looks like, but how it feels to belong.

Eric Kuhlmann is one of those people.

Eric has been named the first inductee into the South Australian Pride Hall of Fame Class of 2026. For many in our communities, this recognition will feel instinctively right. Eric’s contribution runs through Pride Adelaide, through community spaces, and through the culture of care and responsibility that defines Pride today.

Eric served Pride Adelaide in many ways over the years, including as Chair until early 2025. He approached leadership quietly and thoughtfully. He believed Pride mattered, not as a moment, but as a commitment. He understood the weight of responsibility that comes with holding space for community and took that seriously.

Pride, as we know it now, reflects that approach. The way decisions are made. The way people are listened to. The way community trust is protected. These things did not happen by chance. They were shaped by people like Eric, who invested time, energy, and care without seeking recognition in return.

Outside of formal roles, Eric was a familiar presence across LGBTQIASB+ life in South Australia. He was an accomplished performer and storyteller, and a long-time contributor to FEAST Festival. On stage, Eric shared queer stories with humour, honesty, and warmth. His performances resonated because they came from lived experience and genuine connection.

Eric was also deeply connected to the Bear Men of Adelaide and broader bear communities. He helped create spaces that were welcoming, safe, and joyful. Spaces where people could arrive as they were and feel part of something bigger. Those spaces mattered. They still do.

What defined Eric was consistency. He showed up. He followed through. He stepped forward when leadership was needed and stepped back when others should be heard. He cared deeply about community, and it showed in everything he did.

Eric’s influence continues to shape Pride Adelaide today. His values are reflected in how Pride operates and in the standard of care expected from those who lead it. The path forward carries his imprint.

The South Australian Pride Hall of Fame exists to recognise people whose contribution has strengthened LGBTQIASB+ communities across our state. Naming Eric Kuhlmann as the first inductee for 2026 is about honouring the work, the care, and the responsibility he carried for so many years.

Eric will be formally inducted at the South Australian Pride Gala on June 6.

As Pride Adelaide looks forward, we do so with deep respect for those who helped pave the way. Eric’s legacy remains part of that journey.
